I saw Eve at a stop sign
in a green rag top with aluminum wheels
waiting to make a left turn.
I knew immediately it was her,
even in the yellow sun dress she wore,
because she was eating an apple and her long hair
cascaded down her shoulders and over her breasts
like a fall of dark water.
How beautiful, young and alive she was,
how like a perfect and fragrant pear,
and how I envied Adam
the impending loss of his innocence
