Who Are You Now?

fill-your-lungs:

As Plato’s Theory of Forms suggests, our minds are filled with the ideas of objects in the universe. These ideas are loosely based off of what reality holds, and sometimes it is even argued whether these ideas are reality, or whether they are, as stated, simply ideas. To me, they are reality perfected. They are what we wish to see, hold, or experience. Perfection.

Now you; you are but the remnants of memories and regrets long since passed. You; static in the foggy corners of my mind. Always there, portraying my idea of perfection. This idea, however, does not only portray the exact opposite of reality, but also portrays something that you really never were in the first place.
Last night as I slept, I dreamt of you wandering back into my life. That big, bold smile you wore came into view, and it occurred to me… Were you ever really real? Who are you, really? Who are you, now? Treading through lives, like puddles of water after it rains.

For lack of a better comparison,
“You were never really real to begin with. I just made you up to hurt myself.”
- Nine Inch Nails, “Only”.

Knowing now, that the you I thought I knew, was but an idea in my head, I believe I can tread on. You are a shadow of the person I wished you were.
